Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Group Day – Day Support

This position requires direct care of individuals in the community setting, along with providing program support services.  This individual is responsible for completing monthly and daily program documentation.  This individual participates in meetings and advocacy groups pertaining to the betterment of our individuals and program at large.  Prior knowledge of and/or education regarding working with people who have Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities is essential.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Non-ambulatory full care, 
  • Provides individual support and encouragement
  • Advocate for Individual’s rights
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrate time management
  • Medication Administration
  • Meal preparation and storage
  • Teach compensatory strategies within community setting
  • Communicates effectively with individuals, staff, and community partners
  • Maintains documentation in compliance with all licensing agencies
  • Performs assigned maintenance and cleaning tasks
  • Performs crisis intervention as needed
  • Transport individuals as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Virginia’s driver’s license
  • CPR and First Aide certified
  • Medication Administration Certification
  • Behavior Management Certification
  • Successful Child Protective Services Check
  • Successful completion of a Comprehensive Criminal Background and Central Registry Check
  • Other trainings and certifications may be required 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May involve lifting
  • Physical interventions
  • Assistance with self-care of individuals (e.g. toileting, changing)
  • Other physical demands may be required
